Martinis at the Hotel Chelsea
If you’re intrigued by the vibrant (read debauched) history of this hotel and its many artistic residents (Andy Warhol, Jack Kerouac, Bob Dylan, Patti Smith, Robert Mapplethorpe, Andy Miller, Madonna etc) you’ll want to see the recent renovation.
Most notably, the Lobby bar.
We visited in the afternoon, which feels more decadent somehow and ensures a prime table and some excellent service.
The Duke’s Martini & The 1885 Martini
The Dukes is poured tableside with the gin bottle arriving in it own encasement of solid ice on a silver tray.
(Did I mention I like my martinis very cold?)

Vermouth arrives separately so that you’ll mix your perfect martini- dry, wet or anywhere in the middle. Green olives and a lemon twist in a mini martini glass complete the perfect tailored experience.
The 1884 is a complex, wetter martini on the savoury side served with green olives. One of the best drinks ever.
Also recommend the fries alongside plus the chic-est of salad vegetables on ice.
